This waterproof jacket from Berghaus is reasonably adjustable, with Velcro cuffs and a drawcord at the hem, but might just be a little too big in the body. Other than that, it has a decent, rustle-free feel to the fabric and a comfortable mesh lining. The hood is also easy to adjust, with a wonderful wired peak and a huge chin guard that covers most of the face. It proves wonderfully protective in horrible weather, with the GoreTex XCR fabric definitely earning its money for both waterproofing and breathability. There are plenty of pockets, too, although the handwarmers are a little low to reach with a pack on.
Verdict: A top-notch performer that won’t let anyone down, especially in bad weather where the excellent hood and high performance fabric really come into their own. Could do better on weight and venting.
