If you’re a serious hillwalker and you plan on spending a lot of time in deep cold conditions, the Aconcagua (as you might expect from the name) is a perfect choice. There’s Polartec here again, but this time it’s the advanced Power Stretch version which prioritises stretchiness. So it’s incredibly athletic, adapting to your movements smoothly, although it’s not as warm as the Montane or Regatta tops. But it’s more breathable than either, so it’s perfect for swift ascents in cold conditions where you don't want to overheat. This specialised, almost professional feel is what accounts for the high pricetag. It also comes in a new Light version for £120; it’s leaner and 70g lighter. Either option has great merits: not an all-rounder by any means, but for a technical walker with specific needs in cold weather, a great investment.
