While most base layers incorporate petrochemical bi-products, there are more environmentally friendly materials around that work well for base layer products. BAM clothing is made from bamboo with a blend of other fibres, making it extremely environmentally friendly. But the BAM Zip Neck Baselayer is more than eco-friendly; it is active hillwalker-friendly too. As soon as you put it on there is an extremely soft and luxurious feel about this fabric that just makes it a pleasure to wear, as it is soft and stretchy and cosy! It handles sweat extremely well too by transporting it away from the skin while the natural antibacterial characteristics of bamboo means it does not get smelly. The high collar with a long zip makes this ideal for year-round use, as you can wear the collar up in winter and open that zip in summer to give added ventilaton. The long sleeves and long hem means it does not ride up easily when you need more freedom of movement in the arms, such as when scrambling. If you care about the environment and care about your comfort, then BAM is a good option for your base layer.
