Haglöfs Storm Pants

These waterproof overtrousers are exceptionally lightweight, and the slightly articulated knees allow a close yet not restrictive fit. There is a 99cm long side zip, which makes fitting them over any boots a breeze. I also like the fact that the side zips can be vented from the top, which is very useful when you are overheating but don’t want to strip off. The ankle cuff has an elasticated drawcord that is ideal for controlling the hem even though it is so well-shaped it barely needs controlling. The waist is elasticated and you get a drawcord too. Overall I found these very comfortable, a great fit and particularly suitable for carrying in a pack and then whipping on or off at speed. But the main drawback is that the long side zips do not get external stormflaps, so don’t be too surprised if rain leaks in during really wet and windy weather. There is no liner inside to add extra comfort, though this is not a major issue. Some may prefer a belt or braces option too. And there’s no women’s version.

Verdict: Great lightweight overtrousers, but stormflaps over the side zips would be welcome in really wet weather.
