At 161g (size L) the Montane Minimus trousers are the lightest in our test – and that weight makes them ideal for carrying in your pack, while the performance means that when you do put them on you’ll remain comfortable. The fabric is an extremely thin 2.5-layer material with good breathability, but it will still feel clammier than higher-priced trousers with 3-layer fabrics or any trouser with a loose lining. There’s a 33cm zip at the ankle, which just about allows these to fit over my size 11 boots, and the calf area can be tightened down with Velcro tab adjusters. The waist is elasticated and has a drawcord. Great if low weight is your top priority.
