Outdoor Research Equinox Convert Pant 2010

The Outdoor Research range of outdoor clothing is relatively new to the UK, but the brand is well-established in the USA and has an excellent reputation for practical backpacking gear. The Equinox Convert Pant is a lightweight trouser made from quick-drying nylon. It has a fairly standard range of features so you get belt loops and a crotch gusset to improve the fit. There is drawcord ankle cuff adjustment and those all-important lower leg side zips to allow the zip-off portions to be removed over boots. There are two deep map-sized hip pockets and two Velcro seat pockets. These trousers won’t bowl you over with innovation, but they provide the essentials that a walker or backpacker would be looking for, and that is what’s important. But the Outdoor Research Equinox Convert Pants don’t have any stretch fabric – not even an elasticated waist. Also they don’t have any zipped pockets, not even a hidden security pocket. Other trousers have big thigh pockets too. So they lack a lot of features provided by other trousers.

The Outdoor Research Equinox Convert Pants are  no-frills but functional trousers: an excellent option at a good price.
