Synthetic insulation maintains its performance when damp better than down, so the Snugpack Softie Technik 5 is the ideal choice if you think keeping your bag dry will be a problem. The other benefit of synthetic insulation is that it is lower in price than down and far cheaper than buying most more water-resistant down bags. Inside the Snugpak Softie Technik 5 you get Softie Premier insulation, and this provides warmth down to -15 deg C, which isn’t as warm as many down bags, and even at this temperature rating the bag is pretty heavy at 2600g. You get a good side zip with a wide baffle on the inside to retain heat as well as a wide, well-insulated shoulder baffle. The hood is well-designed and easy to adjust, while a compression stuffsack keeps the packed size within acceptable limits that are comparable to many other bags.
Comfort temperature rating -15 deg C
Packed size 25x29cm
NB Temperature rating is based on using the bag fully fastened with the hood up, with a sleeping mat underneath.
The Snugpack Softie Technik 5 was the best choice in our test if you are after a budget synthetic sleeping bag.
