inov-8 is best-known for its range of off-road running footwear and superlight boots, but the company also make a range of rucksacks that perfectly complement its footwear – and the Race Pro 22 is typical of its design philosophy. The pack is designed for fast and light activity – hiking, running or biking – but it also benefits from some innovation in the form of being compatible with inov-8’s Horizontal 2 litre hydration reservoir, which fits into the waist and lumbar region of the pack. This works incredibly well as it keeps the heavy weight of water close to the user and stable, and does not take up internal space in the main compartment. The rest of the pack is fairly typical with a mesh and foam padding ensuring the shoulder straps, hipbelt and back panel are comfy while very light fabrics are used to keep the main compartment light in weight. I love the big stretch stash pockets on the sides and also in the lid, and there are additional hipbelt pockets for smaller items. There are splashes of reflective material for night action too. The chest strap attaches to the shoulder straps with innovative tiny snaplock clips, which seem to work fine.

The inov-8 Race Pro 22 is a modern, lightweight pack that is ideal for most fast activities. Its unique hydration system is a bonus that sets it apart from other options.
