The Stratos 24 has been my default summer day-pack for a very long time. It just gets everything right: compactness, stability, features in abundance and unrivalled comfort. It comes in two different back lengths and has a concave AirSpeed back system which pushes the load away and keeps you well ventilated. This does have a knock-on effect on storage space, which is crimped by the curved wall, but for the coolness and stability of the ride, I forgive that in spades. I love the extra storage: there’s a generous pocket at the top which sits behind the main compartment, so it doesn’t affect the weight. It’s unisex, but Osprey also make a ladies’ version called the Sirrus, which is much loved by former CW reviewer and now global hiker, Rachel Broomhead. But there are those who don’t like all its bells and whistles (literally, it has a whistle). But if you want all mod cons, superb storage and flawless stability, the Stratos is very hard to beat.
Extra pockets: 4 (top x2, belt x2)
Back system: AirSpeed (suspended)
