This midweight fleece from Peter Storm is a nice fit with good-length arms, a high, snug collar and drawcord hem. The fleece cuffs go a little baggy after being pulled up and down a few times, but that’s a minor gripe. The Thermatech 200 fabric offers the right amount of insulation and this jacket could certainly be used as an outer or mid-layer. It has a chest pocket, but it’s not big enough for a map.

Verdict: At £25, the Carrick certainly offers value for money, but it’s a pretty basic fleece with a limited choice of pockets and baggy cuffs that won’t keep the warmth in.
