Unlike most outdoor companies, Craghoppers has a policy of being carbon-neutral and so with many of the features of this fleece mid layer being similar to many others’, those more ethical credentials give it the edge. At 410g this is reasonably light and the close-knit fabric also makes it a little more windproof than some others, without reducing breathability noticeably. The design is fairly standard with a full-length front zip, hem drawcord and two map-sized zipped hip pockets. As the jacket is a little longer than some, you can just about access the pockets below some rucksack waistbelts. All that for £30 is good value. But the pocket access is more easily obstructed by rucksack hipbelts than in fleeces with pockets placed higher on the chest. Like most there is no hood either. Also like many other fleeces this is not a particularly technical design.

Verdict: Buy it if you want a fleece that is carbon-neutral as this is a good option, although it doesn’t boast the most practical features.
