A heavy boot, but it doesn’t actually feel heavy on, due to an excellent fit, with a narrow heel that almost grips the foot and a sweet rolling action that seems to propel the foot forward. It’s reasonably well-padded and the lacing’s excellent, making it easy to get a really stable fit. The thick split-leather/Cordura upper offers support and bags of protection on rougher stuff, yet it never feels too clumsy on the easier trails. And a Gore-Tex lining keeps water at bay. The midsole flexes reasonably easily front to back, again making for easy walking; but laterally it’s stiff enough to deal with uneven ground or steep traverses. Good grip on mud and not bad on rock either. Not a full-on high-level boot, but one that will cope admirably with this kind of going.
