The Scarpa Marmot children’s boot has been highly rated in past tests thanks to its full nubuck leather upper and waterproof lining, coupled with good stiffness in the toe box, sole and heel cup for ideal mountain performance. The reasonably aggressive lug pattern on the sole is good for mud too. But some boots, such as the Brasher Chichon, have a slighter more aggressive sole and more stiffness for larger kids on rockier ground. There is no reflective trim on this boot either, so it’s not the best option for night walks and road sections.

Verdict: The Scarpa Marmot is a good all-round children’s boot that is ideal for most terrain except the rockiest or muddiest.
