Salomon Extend Low XCR

These multi-activity shoes from Salomon are quite roomy, both in volume and width, which combined with substantial padding, makes them very comfortable from the off. The shock-absorbing footbed enhances the comfort. They’re warm in action, though, probably due to the fairly sparse use of fabric in the upper. A medium-stiff midsole makes them easy to walk in, but takes the sting out of the trail when the going gets rough. The well-spaced lacing aids a secure fit, although the padding works against that slightly, with a fair bit of ‘give’ in it. The Contagrip outsole works well on medium soft ground, but is more slippery than most on wet rock.

Verdict: A good all-rounder that easily crosses over from casual use to walking on reasonably tough trails. Comfort is superb, providing the fit is right, and it would need to be at this price.
