Raichle’s Mt Guide 3-season boot is a lightweight option that still manages to provide excellent protection and support. The upper is a clean, full-grain leather with minimal stitching to enhance durability. Inside there’s a Gore-Tex waterproof lining. The toe box is solid with a good rubber rand to enhance the life of the boot.
The ankle is a little lower than most boots of this style, which helps to reduce weight while also providing a little more freedom of movement. Underfoot you get good cushioning and an aggressive outsole lug pattern for grip on a wide variety of terrain.
This is a good hill and mountain boot for scrambling, thanks to that lower ankle cuff, but also for general walking. Some may prefer a higher ankle cuff, in which case the Raichle Mount Trail GTX at £140 would be a perfect alternative. Some boots are lighter (but not as supportive), while others have a full rubber rand for even more durability on scree and scrambles.
