The Air Trail Pegasus trail-running shoe is the off-road version of the well-established Pegasus road-running shoe, so you get plenty of underfoot cushioning plus a studded outsole for grip when off-road. There’s good torsional stiffness too with good flex at the toe to provide a very smooth running action. The upper is mesh for breathability, with synthetic overlays for durability. The upper is supportive around the toe and heel too. The result is a shoe that provides a good, cushioned ride on the road or hard mountain paths, but which also has enough extra bite on the sole to keep you moving across softer terrain. In addition there’s a small pocket under the footbed, allowing a sensor to be located that works with an iPod to provide information on distance, pace and calories used.
Other shoes are lighter and more dexterous, making them better for hurtling down steep, uneven slopes. Also, others have a better grip for mud and wet grass.

Verdict: Superb cushioning and good off-road grip make this an excellent shoe when sticking to level terrain and hill paths, rather than steep grass or more uneven terrain.
