Merrell Octane

A mesh upper provides this trail-running shoe with good breathability for the foot, while drainage holes along the lower edges of the forefoot allow any water to be pumped out on every stride. Synthetic overlays add welcome protection for hacking through undergrowth or over more rugged terrain. The heel cup is particularly supportive, while the toes are also well-protected. Underfoot there is a good level of cushioning as well as good support. The toe flex is ideal for running too. There is good grip from the outsole lug pattern to keep a grip on muddy terrain and grass. This is a good all-rounder for general off-road use, from multi-activity through to runs on easier terrain at a slower pace. But other shoes are lighter and slightly better for more serious runners who want a little extra support and a smoother running performance. Others are also better for more challenging off-road terrain too, such as steeper slopes or mud.

Verdict
A good shoe for easier off-road running, but others are better if you are a regular runner and appreciate extra performance.
