Merrell Chameleon II Slam XCR

This multi-activity shoe from Merrell is quite small, so you may have to go up half a size. It’s a little tight in the toes, but well-padded, and the lacing works really well, wrapping the upper around the foot. With no leather at all, it’s fairly breathable, too. The Chameleon feels really good on, and does an excellent job on a variety of walks. The sole unit definitely prefers hard, dry surfaces. The Gore-Tex XCR lining works well to keep water out  and, combined with the breathable all-fabric upper, keeps your feet sweat-free, too.

Verdict: The modern styling won’t be to everybody’s liking, nor will the lack of leather in the uppers, but the Chameleon is a superb shoe, best suited to drier, firmer tracks and paths.
