A Gore-Tex waterproof lining in this children’s boot keeps the feet dry behind that stylish upper. The Meindl Magic Junior Mid has good stiffness throughout to provide support and protection on rough terrain. Rubber at the toe box and heel add a little extra durability too. But this boot has quite a low ankle cuff, so it’s not ideal for rough terrain. Some others have a slightly stiffer and more aggressive sole unit for rockier terrain too. A leather upper may be more durable in the long term.

Verdict: The Meindl Magic Junior Mid children’s boot is ideal for muddy valley paths, but a more aggressive lug pattern on the sole would be better.
