The Meindl Himalaya MFS is a very tough 3-4 season boot that will withstand many years of abuse on the hill, thanks to the huge rubber rand that encloses the upper. There is also a Gore-Tex lining for extra protection against the wet. The ankle cuff is quite high, so you get lots of support when backpacking with heavy rucksacks across scree or traversing a snow-covered plateau. The sole unit has a good set of deep lugs and this is ideal for general year-round hill-walking on almost any terrain. Cushioning and general comfort are excellent as this boot easily rolls from step to step. There is good stiffness in the sole and upper too, so it’s ideal for use with crampons. But there are slightly lighter boots around than the Meindl Himalaya MFS. Also, this model does have quite a high volume inside, so you might want a thicker sock or a volume adjuster under the footbed to improve the fit if you have narrow feet. The boot is not quite a dexterous as lighter narrow boots either, so it’s not the best for scrambling.

A great all-rounder for tackling the roughest of UK mountain terrain at any time of year, when durability is the main priority.
