The Redburn is quite different from the other shoes in the test but this will certainly suit some. Firstly it’s a mid, so it offers way more support and waterproofing than the rest of the bunch, despite not being particularly heavy. Secondly, it reflects Mammut’s climbing pedigree with a slightly asymmetric fit that enables good pressure over the big toe and a very grippy sole unit that sticks to rock like glue. It’s therefore not for everybody, but ideal for those who enjoy rockier high-level routes, and also for overseas trekking in places like Corsica or the Alps or Pyrenees. The lacing is fabulous – enabling as tight or loose a fit as required, and there is plenty of protection at the toe and heel.
