Here’s a pair of approach-style shoes with climbing firmly in their DNA – the tough rubber rand surrounding the asymmetrically pointed toes is a definite giveaway. As is the lacing that continues right down to the toes and helps achieve a secure, tight fit. The sock-like inner means they provide some of the best waterproofing of any shoes tested, with the tongue and cuff really gripping your ankle. This also helps with getting the fit right and keeping them in position all day. Their stiff sole does facilitate good support on uneven terrain and the relatively smooth tread pattern gives great grip on stony terrain. Of course, that also means that in wet, muddy situations they don’t fare so well, but still better than other approach styles tested.
