Lomer Lakes STX 2010

The Lomer Lakes STX is a well-priced boot with excellent performance. As the name suggests, it is ideal if you’re heading onto the Cumbrian fells. The boot is made from leather with very little stitching so it will certainly be able to withstand the scrapes of a day in the Lakeland hills. Inside the upper there is a Sympatex waterproof lining, so it will keep your feet dry too. The essential protection comes from good stiffness in the upper, the toe box, the heel and also underfoot. To keep a grip there is a Vibram sole unit with a deep lug pattern. This is a well-designed classic fell-walking boot that will carry the user around the Wainwrights for many years to come. All that for £125 is excellent value. But other boots are lighter than the Lomer Lakes STX, and you will bag even more durability if you need it by choosing a boot with a rubber rand. The comfort level is not quite as good as some higher-priced options, and the boot does not roll with the foot as smoothly as some either.
