Keen Whisper 2010

The Keen Whisper is a good-looking sandal for women. The strap system has a drawcord design to tension the straps around the foot, and this worked very well to provide a comfortable, secure fit. But what is great about this sandal is that it offers a little more protection for the foot than an open-toe sandal, but equally water and grit can easily escape and the foot can remain cool due to the upper design. The straps are thin and the sandal is open along its sides. That rubber toe bumper is ideal for travel and walking in general. Inside the straps there is a comfortable lining. Underfoot you get quite a flexible rubber sole that is well-cushioned. The outsole grip is okay for easier terrain too. Compared to others at this price it offers good value, arguably with a slight emphasis on relaxed styling rather than pure function. But the sole is not as stiff as some, so if you take this for a stroll over uneven terrain you will feel tree roots underfoot for example. The outsole lug pattern looks very stylish, but it does tend to hold the soil easier than some. You can pay less of course and a more open upper has advantages if you really want to air your feet.

The Keen Whisper is a good, stylish sandal for camping, country use and travel, but others offer a little more performance for backpackers.
