The Hi-Tec Altitude Lite IV WP JR children’s boot is an excellent price for what you get. There is a conventional upper with reasonable stiffness in the sole and toe box for protection and support on irregular terrain. Underfoot there is a good cushioning plus a very grippy pattern of lugs for the mud. But the stiffness in the sole and toe box is better in some other boots if you are heading for rockier terrain. Some reflective trim would be useful for night walks too. An upper with less stitching may well last longer too, although the child will probably grow out of the boot before this happens.
Upper waterproof suede leather and mesh upper
Sole MDT carbon rubber outsole

Verdict: The Hi-Tec Altitude Lite IV WP JR children’s boot is excellent value for money and ideal for general hill-walking on all but the toughest rocky mountains. It won ‘Best Value’.
