A classic 3-season boot that’s just become available again as Hanwag products are once more being imported to the UK. This is a very high-cut boot, so the ankle gets a little more support and protection than some others, which is useful if you have weak ankles and like to tackle the roughest mountain terrain. The upper is relatively stitch-free too, so it’s going to be very water-resistant and durable, while a rubber rand around the boot further improves durability. The upper is reasonably stiff and supportive, and thus ideal for hill-walking. Underfoot, a Vibram sole unit provides good traction for general hill-walking and backpacking, coupled with good cushioning and stiffness for rough ground.
On the downside, other boots are lighter and less supportive, which some walkers may prefer. Also there’s no waterproof lining, but you can get one in the Hanwag Lima for £140, which is a very similar boot. However, most walkers will find this upper waterproof sufficient provided it’s looked after.

Verdict: A superb boot for mountain walking, if you prefer support and want to save a tenner over a Gore-Tex equivalent; however it is heavy compared to similar options.
