Boreal Futura 2011

The Boreal Futura is a new and exciting shoe with a dazzling style but also some unique performance features that make it particularly suitable for fast and light action, from power walking and Nordic walking to adventure racing and trail running. The upper uses a new construction that is designed to be light, waterproof and extremely breathable. The toe is reinforced for durability. Underfoot the sole unit is particularly good as there is lots of stiffness coupled with a perfect flex for moving fast, which results in this being ideal for off-road running or fast walking. The lug pattern is good too as the lugs are widely spaced and deep for grip without clogging. This shoe offers protection from rain and sweat while being light enough to run in. But as you’d expect from a running-orientated design the Boreal Futura’s upper is not as protective of the foot or as durable as walking-orientated shoes. So the toe box and heel cup are less supportive than others. While this shoe is great for moving fast, more of a heel breast would be good for improved downhill braking when walking. This is a running shoe primarily, and away from that activity others are better.

The Boreal Futura is a superb off-road, fast walking or adventure racing shoe for those who prefer a little more comfort from a waterproof lining rather than purely a lightweight shoe. It won the ‘Best Value’ award in Trail’s test.
