Modern styling and some reflective trim give the Berghaus Raid Junior children’s boot shelf appeal. There is a waterproof lining too. Underfoot a Vibram branded outsole is provided with lugs that will give grip on easier terrain. Also the toe box and heel cup are reasonably stiff and protective. But the very shallow lug pattern on the sole limits grip and does not allow much wear to take place. The main drawback is the flex, which would make rocky terrain uncomfortable. Some other uppers may be more durable in the long term.

Verdict: In the valley and on paths the Berghaus Raid Junior is okay, but for rockier or muddier terrain other children’s boots offer better performance.
