New for 2013, the Prognosis is a trainer-style walking shoe that will definitely appeal to the fast-and-light brigade. At just over 700g, it’s one of the lightest shoes tested yet the synthetic exoskeleton does a good job of holding the foot in place and the high mesh content makes it feel cool and very breathable. Waterproofing is provided by a Gore-Tex liner. It’s a fairly neutral fit, so will work for most, but with careful lacing it’ll hold the foot very securely which, combined with good shock absorption, encourages a fast and agile pace. Grip isn’t great on softer ground but is perfect on rock and firmer trails and despite the lightness, it still boasts good protection at the toe and heel.
