Leki Makalu Trail AS (2012)

A fairly standard pair of poles from market-leader Leki. They feature an anti-shock system that does provide a decent amount of spring on all terrains (not just road) although it may be a little too soft for some. The poles aren’t the stiffest in the world but they work fine, without any slipping from the twist-lock grips. The real selling point for these has to be the grips, made from a rubber material that provides traction even when wet, and with a great ergonomic shape that fits the hand well. The top section is so shaped that it also sits well in the hand when descending steep sections. The straps, whilst not padded, are adjustable, with a very simple and effective flip-out locking system – one of the best strap adjustment systems of any tested.
