Craghoppers Travel Compact Pole 2010

At just 344g for a pair the Craghoppers Travel Compact Pole is very lightweight. Its walking stick-style handle may be preferred by some people but the handle can also be used in a conventional trekking pole way as it has a vertical cork grip too. There is also a webbing wrist loop on the handle. The pole has three sections that can be extended to a maximum length of 100cm and these sections use the conventional internal locking system design. This is a pole that would be ideal for travel and tourist trips. The compact length and weight means it can easily be stashed away within luggage. But the Craghoppers Travel Compact Pole’s length limits it to being used with the traditional walking stick-style grip. It can be used with the trekking pole grip on the shaft, but it is just too short when used in this way. The wrist loop is also not as well padded as higher-priced designs, and there is no anti-shock version in this model. When used as a trekking pole the walking stick grip can get in the way and a forward-tilted grip would be more ergonomic.

Verdict
The short length of the Craghoppers Travel Compact Pole limits its usefulness when backpacking and hill trekking, so it is best kept to less strenuous valley walks.
