Camelbak Omega Plus Reservoir 2010

The Omega Plus is a step up from Camelbak’s standard Omega Reservoir but not quite as posh as its top-end Deluxe model, which is fitted with the flow meter that we reviewed in the April issue (page 9). But this model will more than meet the expectations of most Trail readers: it comes with a removable hose that locks off the flow of water and allows you to get the bladder out of the bag more easily. It also features a bite valve with a neat locking system that is easy to use one-handed and makes it easy to see whether the flow is on or off. The screwtop lid is sufficiently wide to get a hand inside, which makes it easier to clean and much easier to refill. Water tastes good and there’s an antimicrobial treatment to keep things clean. But there’s no dedicated clip to keep the bite valve in place on your pack, but this is an easy problem to overcome. The only major difference between the Camelbak Omega Plus Reservoir and the Source Widepac comes down to your preference for a system of closure.

Verdict
If you prefer the security offered by a screw lid this is an excellent option that feels sufficiently robust and will do everything you need it to.
