The August issue of Country Walking celebrates the 20 greatest walks in the Lake District, so here's our tribute to one of them.

Join Nick Hallissey on a wonderful day above the Buttermere Valley, climbing high on the ridge of Fleetwith Pike, passing through the shattered slate of the old Honister quarries, and finally climbing to Hay Stacks - the favourite fell of Lakeland guidewriter Alfred Wainwright, whose ashes were scattered close by on Innominate Tarn, a beautiful lagoon ringed by dark rocks, with some of the giants of the Lake District as neighbours.

Enjoy!
