as rye pointed out, yes the windshield does get hot. in high winds the performance of the stove will be reduced as with all stoves. i managed to boil 1 cup of water with 12ml of meths + 2 ml of water (the stove runs cooler and you do not get as much sooting on your pot.) after a minuite the caldera shield is cool enough to touch. you can make your own burner out of a red bull can ... a chimney stove but it does not heat up as quick. all meths stoves will flare up when overheating. try adding 10 to 15 percent water it does help. and as with all stoves they need to be given the time to cool down. my msr pocket rocket needs a good 3. also meths stoves as with al stoves (if you take your kids along) need to be supervised at all times especially with meths. the more you use the stove the more you will be able to judge how much fuel to put in. fuel also plays a major part in how the stove performs. thankyou

I use mine with a Snow Peak 900 pot. The Caldera stove is good but: slow to boil compared to gas,boil time can be effect by the wind etc making guessing fuel amounts problematic, it can flare up and be dangerous if cooking in a porch, the wind shield gets very hot so take care using it. It ain't a bad stove, but I think there are better meths stoves out there. I am back to using gas and doubt I'll use the Caldera for a while.

ahhh the caldera stove .... managed to use one for a couple of days ... and not bad .. lightweight, easy to use ... ooh yeah the US peeps that make it now supply a caldera caddy with every new purchase. very easy on the meths ... good boil times. good all over ... price is a tad high but as they say u get what u pay for ... have used meths stoves for quite a while, even managed to make a few ... best i have done is a side burner with windshield .. 28g NOT bad! minibulldesigns do some cracking stoves and the gramweenie kitchen has to be checked out www.minibulldesigns.com .... or u could just buy an msr pocket rocket ... but that is no fun ... meths the tops ! my score for the cone 4.5 outta 5 gud gud ^v^ regs adventureman
