Welcome to the brand new Live For The Outdoors Routes service, packed with Britain’s very best walks.

We’ve teamed up with Memory-Map Trailzilla to bring you this superb new facility. Every route has been created by Trail and Country Walking magazine, and comes with Ordnance Survey mapping, step-by-step descriptions and downloadable GPX files for your GPS.

Magazine subscribers to Country Walking and Trail will have FREE access to all the Routes and to Ordnance Survey Landranger mapping. To subscribe to Trail click here and to subscribe to Country Walking click here.

Other readers can still search our Routes database, and can buy a subscription to our online routes service.

GETTING STARTED

1. Choose where you want to go. Just pan and zoom the map or use the magnifying-glass button to search for the place name or postcode.

2. Pick a route: Pins show the start of each route. Move your mouse over any pin to preview the route. Routes are colour coded for difficulty:

 

 

3. View, print or download: Now click on the pin for the route you've chosen. You'll see three options:

View Trail – This links to Trailzilla to show you what the walk looks like on a map.

Download Extras – This links to Trailzilla to let you download the PDF of the route as it appears in the magazines.

Download GPX – This links to Trailzilla to download or email the GPX route file for use on your GPS or mobile

 

4. Registration: The first time you click through to Live For The Outdoors’ new Routes service on TrailZilla you'll need to register and sign in - don't worry it's FREE!

a) If you're a Trail or Country Walking subscriber, when you register and enter your subscriber number you'll automatically have FREE access to both magazines’ routes to download plus FREE access to Ordnance Survey Landranger maps for the whole of Great Britain.
 
b) If you are not currently a magazine subscriber to Country Walking or Trail, you can still buy a subscription to our online routes service via Trailzilla (
http://www.trailzilla.com/index.php?aid=1024) This costs £10pa for access to Country Walking routes, and £10pa for access to Trail Routes.

 

SHARE YOUR OWN ROUTES

All Live For The Outdoors members can create, upload and share your own routes with other LFTO members as soon as you have registered for free on TrailZilla.

Then just click the Create a Trail tab and plan or upload your favourite routes. You'll also find thousands of other routes, rides and drives worldwide so don't limit your adventures!

 

FAQ

Q. I'm already registered on Live For The Outdoors - do I use the same details for TrailZilla?
A. No, as TrailZilla is owned and operated by Memory-Map you'll need to register there too.

Q. Where do I find my subscriber number?
A. Your subscriber number appears on the cover sheet you receive with each magazine, and usually starts with 3 or 4 zeros. The number you have printed on the sheet may contain letters and other characters, but you only need the first block of numerical characters, not including any letters.
If you don't have your subscriber number, you can find out what it is by calling 0845 120 4600 or emailing
greatmagazines@subscription.co.uk.

Q. Are Trail and Country Walking routes free?
A. Yes, they are free for magazine subscribers. If you're not a magazine subscriber you can subscribe to the routes on TrailZilla, for £10pa to Trail, £10pa to Country Walking, or £20pa to both.

Q. Are Ordnance Survey maps free?
A. Yes, OS Landranger maps for all of Great Britain are free for Trail and Country Walking subscribers. If you're not a magazine subscriber you can subscribe to OS Landranger and Explorer maps for all of Great Britain on TrailZilla for less than 50p a week.

Q. Can I get Ordnance Survey Explorer maps instead?
A. Yes, you can subscribe to OS Explorer maps on TrailZilla. Trail and Country Walking magazine subscribers also get a special discount!


Q. My magazine subscription is a gift, can I still access the routes site?
A. If you subscription is paid for by someone else then you will still be able to access the free routes.  If you purchase a subscription for someone else you will not be able to access the free routes but the person that receives the magazine will be able to claim them.

Q. What do all the different pins mean?
Pins are colour coded for difficulty Green (Easy), Blue (Average), Red (Hard), Black (Expert) and also shown as different shapes depending who created the trail:
  Trail and Country Walking 'official' routes are shown as round pins with a $ symbol
  Your own trails will be shown as square pins
  Other LFTO members trails are shown as round pins
