A group of outdoor gear manufacturers have raised £40,000 to help victims of the recent Cumbrian floods by completing a 140 mile hike.
The eight-strong team from the New Balance factory started the trek from Warrington in Cheshire and finished at Dovenby Hall just outside Cockermouth 4 days later.
Walk coordinator Eddie McDermott said: “We wanted the walk to be a tribute to Cumbria and keep attention concentrated on the continuing plight of local hard-pressed families as well as raise money for the Cumbria Foundation which is such an anchor for local people in times of crisis.”
The New Balance factory was just one of more than 1,500 buildings destroyed by the November 2009 floods which devastated households and businesses across the county. The floods have left large numbers of local people living in temporary accommodation and many more unemployed.
