The Scottish peak of Stac Pollaidh could never be called a wolf in sheep’s clothing: it actually looks terrifying, despite being just 612 metres high, which is small by Scottish standards. The boon here is that you can get onto Stac Pollaidh’s summit ridge within 20 minutes of leaving the convenient roadside car park. Anyone can have fun on this grippy Torridian sandstone, and drink in the views of Suilven and Cul Mor, but to reach the highest point at the west end of the ridge requires an awkward traverse (scrambling Grade 2) over a rather nasty drop…
Fancy experiencing Stac Pollaidh for yourself? In this month’s Trail we show you the best route up, complete with OS mapping. We’ve also put together a tick-list of Britain’s biggest mountain adventures for your delectation. Let us know when you’ve added them all to your bucket list!
