The Slovenian mountaineer was found dead on the Himalayan peak Langtan Lirung.

He broke his leg in a fall last Monday and rescue teams desperately searched for him.

They were in satellite phone contact with Humar, but he sounded very weak and reportedly said "this is my last".

Rescuers found him on Saturday but by then it was too late.

He had been climbing solo on the 7,227m mountain.

Over the past 15 years Tomaž Humar became one of the world's best known climbers.

He solo climbed the likes of Annapurna, El Capitan and the lethal south face of Dhaulagiri and he survived six days in a snow cave on Nanga Parat after being trapped by avalanches.

After falling into a hole while building a house he was told by doctors he would never walk again - let alone climb.

But within a few years Tomaž had successfully climbed Shisha Pangma, Aconcagua and Cholatse.

Tomaž Humar was 40 and a father of two.
