It’s that time again, folks: the time to enter a mountain movie of your own making for a chance to win a dream trip and an assignment for Trail.
This year the Trail Mountain Movie Awards (TMMA) is going to unlock more potential Spielbergs than ever: the competition has the theme of My Favourite Mountain. We’re therefore looking for anything which captures on film your enthusiasm for a particular place.
“The last couple of years the quality of the film making and editing has been quite amazing,” says Trail’s deputy editor Simon Ingram. “But this year we’re looking for great stories, real passion for hill-walking and sheer unbridled enthusiasm. It’s content rather than film making ability that will be key to this year’s competition and the mark of success will be your film’s ability to inspire other people to follow in your footsteps.”
You don’t need top end video cameras and editing facilities at your disposal to enter: it’s all about passion. “The key here is great stories, well told,” explains Simon. “This year’s winner might be a 45 second monologue on the top of a summit shot on a mobile phone. Equally it might be a detailed three-minute film of a superb scrambling route with brilliantly edited camera angles. What’s important is how much it makes other people want to get out there and see that hill for themselves.”
Top prize is a dream trip to the Alps for two which comes courtesy of travel specialists The Adventure Company, during which you will be given the chance to make a paid report for Trail Magazine. We’ve also teamed up with some of the outdoors’ most prestigious gear makers for a second prize of technical kit.
First Prize - An 8-day trekking tour around the Mont Blanc region with The Adventure Company
Second Prize - a set of top-end technical clothing
Third Prize - an insulated top and a bottle of Bowmore whisky
The finalists will be shown at a special ceremony at the Kendal Mountain Film Festival. Good luck, and happy shooting!
How to enter - you can upload your video here. This will load your video onto the site for others to enjoy.
The rules films must be no more than three minutes long, and must adhere to the theme of ‘My Favourite Mountain’. Videos must have the ability for digital upload, or may be supplied to the Trail editorial office on a DVD or CD. They can feature any location, but must be the entrants own work and not infringe any laws, including the use of copyrighted music. Closing date for entries is Friday 22 October 2010.
