Munros are so 20th century!

A brand new website hoping to change the way British peaks are classified has been launched today.

ProminentPeaks.org.uk hopes to be the foundation for future hill lists and believes current lists are dated and often include sub-summits, that have very little prominence from the surrounding landscape.

For a start, ProminentPeaks has used the metric system, as our maps have been doing since 1975.

Each hill must be at least 500m high with at least 100m of prominence.

So maybe you might like to try Bloomer's Challenge - climbing all 158 UK hills with a prominence of at least 500m. Or perhaps you may wish to have a go at the Thousanders!
