I was editor of Trail from 2000-2002, when I then became the publisher. I had previously been a staff writer on Trail in the mid-90's. I got involved in Trail as it was the best mag for adventurous hill-walkers (of which I was one, as well as a journo). It was my dream job!

My most enduring memories? Going to Knoydart to climb Ladhar Bheinn and visit the remotest pub in the UK (I ended up arm-wrestling the locals after they plied me with whisky). Having to deal with the foot and mouth outbreak in 2001, with much of the UK's outdoors closed down. Having the pleasure of belaying Sir Chris Bonington on a climb up Crag Lough at Hadrian's Wall.
