Imagine trying to walk a mile every hour for six weeks.

Well that’s what Richard Dunwoody’s trying to do.

The champion jockey hopes to walk 1,000 miles in 1,000 hours, emulating the challenge famously undertaken by Captain Robert Barclay 200 years ago.

Barclay betted the equivalent of £35,000 that he could complete the task.

Dunwoody will walk the same route – from a hotel in Newmarket to a post half a mile away, and back again, 1,000 times.

Dunwoody’s father suffers from dementia and the Memory Walk will raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society and several other charities.
