Would you like the opportunity to run in what has been deemed “Britain’s most beautiful marathon”? The new international Kielder Marathon will open on October 17th later this year. Participants will have the opportunity to race the 26 scenic miles alongside former Olympic athlete Steve Cram, who came up with the idea for the race.
The event, in which all ages and abilities can compete, will start at Leaplish Waterside Park before following the off-road trail down Lakeside Way amongst impressive views of the British countryside and shoreline of Kielder Water.
Steve Cram commented, “It offers a wonderful test for trail runners, adventure racers and marathon enthusiasts alike. Add to that the stunning setting, with a wonderful new view at every twist and turn, and I think that this is quickly going to establish a reputation as the most beautiful marathon in Britain.”
The 3 million pound Lakeside Way project on which the marathon is based can be used by walkers, runners, cyclists and horse riders, offering participants increased interaction with the parks wildlife and scenery.
The marathon, which is expected to attract outdoor enthusiasts from around the world, is just one of many activities that will take place as part of a family orientated weekend in Northumberland, North East England.
