Fed up of trying to read maps in gloomy, wet ol’ January weather? Ordnance Survey is coming to your rescue.
The mapmakers are producing durable, weatherproof versions of 25 of its most popular Landranger maps.
Called OS Landranger Map: Active, the new series keeps the familiar scale of 1:50,000. Each map covers an area of 40km by 40km – allowing visitors to explore a whole area in and around their base.
Thanks to an enhanced finishing process, the alternative maps have a lightweight protective plastic coating that can be written on to highlight favourite routes. The tougher, more versatile versions offer more choice for active map users – or those planning trips regardless of the weather.
"Much-loved"
“These maps are durable, weatherproof versions of an already much-loved series,” says Ordnance Survey’s Deborah Cable.
“If there is one thing we just cannot predict, it’s the great British weather. So, when it’s safe to venture out, we’ve come up with a way for people to not only plan trips but to keep their map with them outdoors – without fear of it getting ruined by rain, sleet or even snow.”
The maps feature major tourist attractions, such as theme parks and smaller holiday parks and villages, gardens open to the public, walks and trails, nature reserves, visitor centres and sports stadiums open for people to tour.
The maps are priced £12.99 each, and can be ordered online at www.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/snow
Alternatively, find them at Ordnance Survey Mapping and Data Centres or bookshops.
