The latest boot from Scarpa, the £150 Cristello, combines the best features of its popular predecessors, in a technical scrambling and Via-Ferrata boot that can also be used for hill, mountain and glacier walking.
The uppers are made from Pro-Tech suede with a pro fibre midsole for extra support and a very generous rubber rand for added protection on rock. It has a sticky Vibram sole and a Gore-Tex lining.
It weighs 1120g (size 38 ladies) and 1300g (size 8 men’s). The women’s fit has less volume and a lower ankle cut.
It has a crampon rating of B1 so it can be worn with Grivel’s G10 or Air Tech New Classic crampons.
Close fit
Rosemary Stevenson, General Manager of Mountain Boot Company told us: “The Cristello is designed especially for scrambling with a close fit to improve your scrambling performance, as your foot won’t be flopping around inside the boot as you move over the rock.
"It differs from a regular walking boot with a blanked out climbing zone under your big toe area. This means you can get more rubber down for grip, which you can’t do with the indented cleats that regular boots would use on descent on rough ground.”
