Watch out for Bugs this April! No, we’re not talking about the small, swattable, biting creatures with an alarming number of legs that leave a grimy smear on your windscreen.
The Bug is in fact the first daysack for single-day, multi-pitch climbing from headtorch brand Petzl.
This 18 litre, synthetic fibre sack is designed to be worn high on your back, and has a rectangular shape that minimises interference on multi-pitch climbs but still leaves you with enough space inside for all your gear.
Precarious
For the approach to the climb you can strap a rope to the bottom of this 570g rucksack, and once on the rock itself, lateral compression straps stops kit rattling around inside while you strain for holds and dangle off precarious ledges.
An external guidebook pocket makes route-finding less of a chore, and there’s also a dedicated e+LITE (Petzl’s 28g mini-torch) loop so there’s no excuse to for getting caught out at the crag in the dark.
The only thing is, we can’t work out is why it’s called the Bug. This £35 sack doesn’t have antennae, or an alarming number of legs, and it certainly doesn’t bite.
