Merrell have created a new light hill-walking shoe to keep your tootsies warm this winter. The Quantum Moc Waterproof, which retails at £60, promises to keep you dry as a bone without weighing you down.
Its top features include an upper made of pigskin leather (lighter than the mooing kind), a Polartec 100 Thermo Insulation Lining treated with Agis Antimicrobial Technology (to keep your feet warm without making them pong) and a Lycra/neoprone 4-way stretch collar to keep out driving rain or snow. It also has 5mm lugs on the sole to keep your feet firmly on the ground.
Obviously, these aren’t the shoes you’d pull out of the wardrobe to tackle Ben Nevis in mid-winter, but they would do you proud on a medium-height summer hill or for shopping after a snow dump. Think of them as the Freelander of the shoe world, if you will– not the best off-road performer, but a nice compromise if you’re looking for urban cool and the odd outdoor dabble.
