Hi-Tec showed us what looked like an industrial microwave on their stand at the 2008 OutDoor show in Friedrichshafen in Germany. What came out of this square metal box was far more exciting than re-warmed leftovers, but not for rival outdoor company Regatta.
This September Hi-Tec will pip Regatta to the post with their Ion-Mask technology Altitude Ultra walking boot. Every one of these boots has been placed inside this vacuum-making machine to recieve this revolutionary water repellancy treatment.
Just like in the Regatta story on the blog earlier today, this treatment penetrates every fibre using flurocarbons to give a lightweight, breathable, dirt-repelling and water-hating finish to HiTec's best selling 2-season walking boot, the original 60 pound Altitude. This January HiTec will also use Ion-Mask technology in their approach shoes.
The Altitude Ultra will retail for a tenner more than the Regatta boots at 80 pounds this September, and Trail's technical editor Graham Thompson has a pair already, so keep watching the magazine for a review soon!
