Zamberland Venture One of the heavier shoes on test, but still a fair bit down on a good boot, and it didn’t feel at all clumsy, so loses no marks. It is very stable and offers plenty of support, both in the upper, which is a split-leather/Cordura blend, and in the midsole, which seems to flex perfectly both front to back and laterally across the foot. Berghaus Pro Rush Low XCR £85

Berghaus Pro Rush The Pro Rush’s soft mesh uppers ensure extreme comfort straight from the box and an excellent lacing system makes it really easy to get a good fit. They’re also wonderfully light. The Gore-Tex XCR lining will feel a little sweaty on really hot days but it does mean you won’t get wet feet walking through long grass or shallow puddles. Scarpa Zen A fantastic looking shoe with a firm feel. An excellent lacing system ensures a good fit and keeps feet firmly in place, even on sloping ground.
