Aldi’s well known for its outragously cheap fruit and veg, rock-bottom-priced stone-cutters and low-budget electrical goods, but can it do the same with its new range of crazily-priced walking gear?

They are selling Vibram-soled walking boots for £25, quick-drying trousers for £10, soft shell jackets for £13, 100% waterproof jacket-and-trousers combo for £7, base layers for £5 and walking poles for £5.

Aldi says, “All the products in the range offer the quality and specification of leading brand names, without the designer price tag. All you have to worry about is reading the map!”

This new range of walking wear products is on sale from 17 March from Aldi and it forms part of the Weekly Special Buys range on sale at Aldi every Thursday and Sunday.

Trail’s gear tester Graham Thompson has yet to get his hands on this low-priced supermarket kit, so if you’re an outdoor gear bargain hunter, we want to hear from you about how it performs on the hill. Email trail@emap.com with your feedback and how it compares to average-priced gear.
